The Clean Cooking Alliance (CCA) is hosting the first-ever Week of Clean Cooking, a series of virtual engagements, events, content releases, and networking opportunities to catalyze action and engage everyone across the clean cooking ecosystem.

The Week of Clean Cooking will feature a diverse lineup of daily events.

Friday, October 15:

  • (8:00-9:00AM EDT) A Conversation on Clean Cooking, Women, and Trade: Representatives from CCA, the World Trade Organization, and partners will discuss the critical role of women in achieving universal access and the importance of engaging the trade community in establishing an inclusive, enabling environment.

Monday, October 18:

  • (8:00-9:30AM EDT) The Role of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) as a Household Fuel: This event will present key findings from the World Bank ESMAP’s recently published background papers on LPG as a cooking fuel.

  • (10:00-11:30AM EDT) Beyond Households: Modern Energy for Cooking in Institutional Settings: This webinar, organized by MECS, will focus on modern energy cooking transitions in institutional settings, such as in schools, health centers, prisons, and community or religious settings, in both development and humanitarian contexts in the Global South.

Tuesday, October 19:

  • (6:30-7:30AM EDT) Opportunities for Decentralized Renewable Energy in Clean Cooking: This session, organized by MECS, will focus on analysis of the quality of decentralized renewable energy in clean cooking across India, and the additional revenue opportunities that can emerge from modern energy cooking.

  • (9:30-11:30AM EDT) Week of Clean Cooking Plenary: Unlocking the SDGs and Net-Zero with Clean Cooking: This three-part webinar includes the launch of a new multi-stakeholder Energy Compact on clean cooking, presentation and discussion on the evolution and next steps for the Clean Cooking Systems Strategy, and a high-level panel conversation with women leading on the clean cooking agenda.

Hearths and Health: Evidence of the Global Impact of Household Air Pollution 

CCA has launched an interactive StoryMap featuring recently released health and air pollution exposure data from the Institute of Health Metrics and Evaluation and the Health Effects Institute. This StoryMap walks the reader through data visualizations to contextualize the urgent need to address household air pollution, which can be mitigated by increasing access to cleaner cooking technologies.

CCA's Venture Catalyst: A Year of Projects and Impact

Developed to provide a broad range of specialized support to selected companies across the clean cooking value chain, CCA’s Venture Catalyst program launched in 2020. One year later, the Venture Catalyst has helped its first cohort of companies to solidify their commercial viability, enhanced their investment-readiness, and facilitated access to growth capital. A series of case studies highlights that work and showcases lessons learned in its first year of operation.

Maximizing the Health Benefits of Clean Cooking in Nepal

Following a multi-year study aimed at increasing the uptake and assessing the impact of clean cooking technologies in peri-urban households in Nepal, CCA has released a series of policy briefs to showcase its findings. The briefs, which cover topics such as electric cooking and a collaboration with female community health volunteers, are helping stakeholders in Nepal make better and more informed decisions about clean cooking access.

Clean Cooking Can Empower Women: A New Financial Tool Could Help Determine What That’s Worth

Providing women access to modern energy is a critical but often overlooked means of empowering women at a household level and advancing gender equality. CCA has partnered with Duke University and C-Quest Capital to develop a framework for a new results-based finance instrument to help understand gendered time-use of improved biomass cookstove initiatives in sub-Saharan Africa.

Launching Round Two of the Haiti Clean Cooking Fund

CCA has launched the second round of the Haiti Clean Cooking Fund, a program that supports the growth of the clean cooking value chain in Haiti. The program will provide technical support and funding ranging from US $25,000-$250,000. Find out more about the program and its eligibility criteria and application process.
