Founder & CEO, BrightGreen Renewable Energy

Chebet Lesan, 2018 Clean Cooking Alliance Woman Entrepreneur of the Year, is the founder of BrightGreen Energy, a renewable energy company that creates cooking and heating fuel blocks from upscaled farm-waste. She is passionate about environmentally conscious businesses, women's economic empowerment, and technology that uplifts underserved communities.

Her company, BrightGreen, has built a circular economy, which upscales biomass waste into improved fuel blocks. BrightGreen’s technology has been widely adopted and also resulted in new local micro-enterprises in Kenya. BrightGreen’s work continues to reduce reliance on charcoal and firewood, reduce cooking energy costs for households, and build resiliency for value chain partners.

Chebet has been recognized as a young global leader by the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Trust and has received the Queen’s Young Leader Award from Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II. She is also the recipient of the Australia Award Fellowship 2016 and Clean Cooking Alliance Woman Entrepreneur of the Year 2018. She has a background in Leadership from the University of Cambridge, Product Design from the University of Nairobi, Supply Chain Management from Rutgers School of Business and a Business-Design Fellowship from Massachusetts Institute of Technology D-lab.
